SMU B93 WIN CHELSEA SC KICKOFF TOURNAMENT

SMU B93, our club’s BU17 Gold team, put the finishing touch on their pre-league play by capturing the championship at the Chelsea SC Kickoff Tournament held over the August 28-29, 2010 weekend.  
Strongly guided by Coach Federico Bianchi, the team was able to neatly dispense with UFC 4-0, Brigade 3-0, ChelseaSC Black 4-0 and in the championship, Inter Murietta 4-0.

Goalkeeper/Captain Wade Clement lead the team with a solid performance in the net, not conceding one goal all tournament. He was helped in this effort by some incredible defending by Zack Leal, Nick Tillman, John Nagle, and Alec Kupelian who were able to shut down any of the opposing forwards. Strong performances by Manny Serrano, Brian Sanchez, Frank Nelson and Kevin Eyler allowed for SMU to control every game with ease. Virgil Chao capped off the tournament with two outstanding goals in the final.

With this strong tournament championship as a launching pad, Coach Bianchi looks forward to positioning this team to have a very strong showing in what will be a competitive Gold bracket.

This amazing clinic is OPEN TO ALL (NOT just for Santa Monica United) PLAYERS ages 6-12 ... Our "FF" program is aimed at teaching technical soccer skills by education through fun! Whether you are interested in becoming the next Cristiano Ronaldo or the next Mia Hamm, or you purely want to have an enjoyable soccer experience.

Santa Monica United's G17 is currently holding open tryouts to strengthen the squad for the 2010-2011 fall league season. The team trains on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6-7:30 PM at Webster middle school in West LA. You must be born on or after 8/1/1993 to play for this team.

R.I.P. JAMES DANIEL O'CONNELL

It is with deepest regret and sympathy that Santa Monica United FC announces the passing of former SMU player James Daniel O'Connell, son of former President Dan O'Connell.
Jamie, as he was known by friends and coaches, was 20 years old and will always be remembered as an outstanding young man and human being.
He shall be sorely missed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the O'Connell family.

A memorial service for Jamie O’Connell will be held next Wednesday, July 7th, at 2:00 p,m. at Westwood United Methodist Church, 10497 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024. Phone is 310-474-4511.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Jamie to funds that have been set up at his three schools: John Thomas Dye School, Brentwood School and Lafayette College in Bethlehem, PA. The family realizes how much everyone wants to honor Jamie, but we don’t have all the details yet as to how donations should be made. Please bear with us and we will provide details as soon as we have them.

BU12 SMUFC B96 is 2009 CALSOUTH STATE CUP CHAMPION!!!

Santa Monica United FC's BU12 team emerged as 2009 CALSOUTH STATE CUP CHAMPION, by defeating the San Diego's Aztecs 2-1 in a very exciting final, Sunday Feb. 22.

Coached by Pete Bartlett and Manu Appelius, the team played a total of 9 games, scoring 33 goals and giving up only six on the way to the gold medal. The team capped a fantastic season where it also won fall league, earning promotion to the silver elite level.

Congratulations everyone on a memorable 08-09 season!

SMUFC has put together a downloadable "COLLEGE BROCHURE" that is available for you perusal by clicking the the "COLLEGE RECRUITING" tab on the left-hand margin of this homepage.

Parents - choosing a college is perhaps the first independent decision of your son or daughter’s adult life. Remind them that there is no perfect school and support their efforts and decision.

This college recruiting site is provided to supply you with some guidelines and resources to research athletics in college. Please verify all information with the college councilors at your school as colleges and universities have different requirement.
